Sea Change, The Seascape in Contemporary Photography
Book, 1998
Inspiring seascape photography from various contributing artists, including Robert Adams, Lynn Davis, Robbert Flick, and Stuart Klipper.
Film, 1976
Sidney Lumet directed this great socio-political comedy. Very subversive and surprisingly still very timely, this film features a wonderfully washed out look, courtesy of cinematographer Owen Roizman. Spike Lee borrowed from this film freely in his film Bamboozled.
Film, 1976
Alan Pakula directed, Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford star. This is a film based on Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward's uncovering of the Watergate scandal for the Washington Post.
Film, 1975
Sidney Pollack directed this great socio-political thriller starring a very charismatic Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway. This is one of my all time favorites and is oddly very relevant to our political environment today. By now you've noticed a pattern with these entries. All are films from 1974-76 and all concern themselves with exposing the underbelly of social and political America. It's interesting to note that these films were blockbusters when released.
Film, 1974
Alan Pakula directed, Warren Beaty stars. A conspiracy thriller that, while not as strong a film as Three Days of the Condor or Network, is well worth a rental.
PJ Harvey, Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea
Rock Album, 2000
I recently rediscovered this gem after shelving it back around 2001. Full of great energy, totally pro-NYC...reminds me what a wonderful city I live in.
Cinematographer
I mentioned Roizman's work in the film Network above. He also shot Three Days Of The Condor as well as The Exorcist, The French Connection, and Grand Canyon…all favorites.
Photographers
Both German photographers, wonderful work.
