After viewing “East of Eden”, one begins to understand just why poster shops still carry neon-lit, airbrushed prints of James Dean. His performance is genius, and by far my favorite of his three career films. Brilliantly directed by Elia Kazan. – Ian

A marvelous collection of short stories detailing the extreme adventures of a journalist, whose exploits take him from war-torn Somalia, to the religious fervor of a “Bikers For Jesus” convention.
Author
Cowboys, pariahs, bitter old men, and secretive women populate the work of this unique American author. Definitely read the book, ‘The Shipping News’ before seeing the movie.

I had the opportunity to watch Mr. Demme at work on his latest picture and was amazed at his ability to focus on the big picture, while at the same time embracing the small details. Credits include “Philadelphia”, “Silence of the Lambs”, and “Stop Making Sense”. - Hillman
